[/quote] Correct. The whole game of modern politics in the US is getting uneducated white people who are held down by billionaire policies to blame immigrants and not billionaires for their problems. The rightwing media is an absolutely critical part of that. The DC area is heavily liberal. It is also a multicultural place with a strong economy, like most other US big cities. The problems are in red states who have lost people to cities, are mostly white, and for those two reasons are susceptible to rightwing propaganda media.
