Our local noise ordinance is 11 pm. So we are going to go with 10 on weekends and summer and 9:30 school weeknights. Hopefully that will be ok. We have a preschooler ourselves so it’s not that we don’t understand the concern. But there’s only so much accommodation that can be expected in this fairly urban setting.
10 is far too late on a regular basis. If it were say, once a week or so, no big deal but regular basis? There's NO reason you can't stop your kids at 8 or 9 other than you don't want to, or they don't want to and you have no authority over them. 9:30 on a school night? Also no good. Look, your kids have a right to play ball but other neighbors have rights too. And why does it even have to be about rights and noise ordinance? Why not just be a good neighbor and understand that at that time of night, people are getting ready to relax, watch TV, possibly still doing work or homework, younger kids are in bed, and behave decently, and a basketball makes a LOT of noise. Just like you'd want them to do for you if you went to them about their barking dog, or blaring music or whatever.
