If it is for someone who interacts with customers, then I'd choose someone without highly visible tats on the face or neck. You can easily find a candidate without that. Also, I don't think tats are a "superficial" aspect. They are an essentially permanent change to a person's appearance. They reflect something that the person wants you to know about themselves, and it is quite proper to make judgments about it. Tats are not the same as (say) wearing poorly coordinated or cheap clothing to the interview, which I can overlook.[/quote]
