The math team just won first place in the nation in the ARML, and won first place at the CMU national tournament earlier this year, and 2nd place at PUMC at Princeton, 1st place at Duke
As someone who participated on my state's ARML team 20+ years ago, I have to say that's an incredibly impressive result. ARML is a fairly hardcore, heavy duty math competition in which many teams are formed from the best kids across an entire state or an entire major metropolitan area. Even the second string TJ team had a decent showing at 27th place. Also, since the timing of Algebra comes up frequently on the dcum AAP board: I doubt that the 15 kids on the TJ ARML team waited until 8th grade to take Algebra to have "good foundations". Most of them probably took Algebra in 5th or 6th, and that was clearly the proper placement for these kids. ;)
