I grew up in a lower and middle-class household and eventually became relatively wealthy (think big law firm partner wealthy). The longer I was around other wealthy people, the more I disliked them. Everything they stood for rubbed me the wrong way. They bored me. A few years ago I walked away from rich people completely and now live a very different life. I have zero to do with old colleagues and friends and am much happier. Anybody else feel the same way about the rich?
Most of the wealthy people I know are quite nice and easy to get along with. Vast majority of them are newly wealthy and came to money through their own hard work rather than inheritance. I can appreciate that money distorts people's view on things, so I raise an eye brow when someone talks about spending 2k/person/day at a resort and how it was worth it. But things like this does not reflect on the character of a person, just their circumstance. Given that people vary greatly and there is no homogeneity of personality to rich/wealthy people, either you were extremely unlucky to have been around a group of exclusively insufferable people, or you yourself is actually the insufferable one. In terms of odds, the latter is the more likely scenario. When I find a situation where it seems "they are all wrong", I quickly take a step back and do some self inspection.
