My first cynical thought was OF COURSE she got a newborn six months after "starting the adoption journey." A process that takes years for everyone else takes months when you know the right people, I guess.
Domestic adoption generally only takes years for people who are waiting for a healthy white newborn. And, as she even said in her announcement, she expected it to take longer, but adoption timelines can be totally unpredictable sometimes
She adopted a black baby, perhaps one from foster care?
Right - that was my point. It's not true that the process takes years for everyone else. People who adopt non-white babies (typically african american or hispanic) generally have a much faster timeline, so nothing was out of the ordinary about Bowser's timeline given that her baby isn't white. My guess is it wasn't through foster care, simply because it's very unusual to adopt infants through foster care because of the timeline and court process for terminating parental rights. Not that it never happens, just that infants are more likely adopted through voluntary placements.
