K is not the new first grade.  In years past, preschools and parents prepared kids for school.  Now everyone feels it is the school's job so kids have a harder transition due to the lack of structure from school and other places.[/quote]

When I was a kid, K was a half day and involved playing/socializing with other kids and learning one letter sound a week. K today absolutely is the first grade. The common core K standards are what was expected in 1st in earlier times.[/quote]

We had full day and it was for learning.  Do an extra year of preschool if that is important to you.  School is to learn.[/quote]

You must not be familiar with the literature of how 5 year olds learn. Try learn through play, and today’s k curriculum is not developmentally appropriate.[/quote]
