Summer programs seem fun for my kids. Regular program is ok, I have good days and bad based on my interaction.

I was lucky to have my mom home for the summer.  She didn't work.  She lost her eye in an attempted robbery out in the Fort Washington area, she was robbed and cut with a knife.  
I played all summer.  We didn't have a lot of money for vacations.  We went to the free places in DC, and to tours of historic places around this entire area.  My experience when moving to VA was a lot better then in Maryland.  You all don't know how lucky you have it.  Schools are safer in VA, SACC is pretty good, again I cant talk about summer, because I got to play all around.  
Now my wife and me both work. I wish I could give my kids the summers off. Instead we are like you looking all over for programs because my parents are not longer here.  I feel like I am doing something wrong by not giving my kids the summer off.  Casue today I don't care where in VA you live the kids seem like they are so busy, and SACC is not a good experience for everyone.  I feel bad about having to keep my kids cooped up all summer, but I don't make enough money to take off for two weeks of vacation.  [/quote]
I had summers off as well.  I am from New Jersey, and I loved riding my bike, getting Italian ice, talking with my friends on the stoop in front of the house, and going to the book mobile when it came around.  I come from a blue collar background too.  I think there is something to be said for the kids having a summer off with no activities.  No wonder the kids are stressed out today.
Maybe this year if I can get help from my parents, they are retired, we can have a break from SACC. I am sorry about your mother.[/quote]
