That's the big story this year. So many students applied that the admit rate dropped to 56%. VT sent out a notice to all college counselors a few days in advance to warn them. Also, when you look at the admit rate for VT you have to factor in that most of those students self-select to apply there because both they and their counselors know the statistics needed to get in (same with W&M and UVA) so you can't compare the admissions rate to private universities or colleges.  As it is for 2017, 2018, the top 25% GPA for entering students is a 4.21, median 50% a 4.00, and bottom 25% a 3.78 for Va Tech.  I don't have a pony in this race but have tracked the statistics because I'm an educator and have two in UVA universities.  I don't think my DD who got into UVA just two years ago would get in today.  The statistics have changed that fast.
