^^^ My last employer, in DC, had its own private parking garage, for which it charged employees $280 a month, which is cheaper than the public garages. But sometimes when you arrived late (doc appt or whatever), there would be no spaces and you had to use a public garage. Much more expensive, and the company did NOT subsidize the public garage space - or rebate any portion of the $280. So, in essence, the company was collecting $280 per employee (more than 600 employees) for the right to park in their garage IF you found a spot. That's the typical crap employers pull. Government employees don't appreciate how much better they have it.
Actually, we do. We also think it's pathetic that you're so intent on pulling the rest of us down to your level of misery ("misery loves company" etc) Employers in the U.S. actually DID previously subsidize public transportation. But then then labor stopped organizing and now employers foist more and more costs on the back of employees to the profit of management and inherited shareholders.
