^^ Oh and also how Lyla just up and drives 200 miles to get to Riggins and Jason in Mexico. Her parents allowed this? Her dad didn't even want her to be with Jason after the injury.
It's like everything on television, they take elements of truth and stretch it. That said, I grew up in Texas in the 80s, and we had much more freedom than kids do here. When I was a teenager, the drinking age was 18, and alcohol was not difficult for teenagers to get. The drive down to Mexico on the show struck me, because it did seem so much like something a teenager in Texas would do that a DC teenager would never be allowed to do. My parents let me drive 100 miles to spend the weekend with my boyfriend, who was already in college. And my parents were very straight-laced! When I was in college, we drove down to Mexico to hang out and buy cheap liquor. Unfortunately, the border is no longer safe, so I wouldn't let my kids do that anymore.
