I did not try to get a wife as hot as the next guy's. Nor did my friends try. I found a woman who was cute _enough_ for me. I thought she was pretty and I was proud to have her on my arm, but at the end of the day what other people thought of her was irrelevant.

I don't think so. None of the guys I know ever stated that they were trolling beauty pageants for wives. You meet someone cute enough, who shows up. The first part is easy at 30. The second part is never easy.

Of course, if you're holding out for status and affluence, then you're dealing with guys with an incentive to be players.
