Amazing...different people have different priorities.  Just because these husbands have different priorities than yours does not mean they are horrible spouses.  There are plenty of guys who don't want to care for their lawns, but aren't as belligerent as OP's husband about her either mowing the lawn herself or hiring a service.

I used to mow the lawn and did for the first 7 years we owned the house.  However 5 years after we moved in, we had twins.  I continued to mow (although I actually dislike mowing the lawn) until they were about 2 years old.  That's when my wife decided that enough was enough and hired a service.  Why?  Because we have almost a half acre lawn and it takes about 2.5 hours to mow and trim the lawn.  In the spring, it takes a whole weekend for mowing, trimming, weeding and mulching the beds edging the house, etc.  I'm the only driver in the house (my wife is visually impaired and doesn't drive), and it meant that errands were not being run, and no one could go anywhere.  She finally wanted to have my time back so that the family schedule was easier to maintain without having to block off 2-3 hours for lawn maintenance.  We're much happier having a lawn service and frankly, I don't miss mowing my lawn.[/quote]
