My guess is that Hardy's higher at risk and greater remedial needs population is what discourages a lot of IB families from sending their kids there and why there is a much lower IB "take up" percentage for Hardy than for Deal.
If you really want to have a speculative discussion we can talk about take-up rates! At least IB numbers are released by DCPS, we should know the actual number this fall. I don't think DCPS knows the number of kids IB for each school who go private, or the total IB school-age population for each school. Based on feeder school populations I think Hardy has about half as many feeder kids per seat as Deal does, so even if it had the same take-up rate it would still be majority-OOB. The only data I've been able to find is this article: http://dc.urbanturf.com/articles/blog/73_of_students_in_dcs_20008_zip_code_attend_private_school/8863?utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=Wednesday+August+13th%2C+2014&utm_medium=keep_reading_link It's by zip code. The zip code with the highest percentage of private school kids in DC is 20008, which is IB for Deal, where 73% of kids go private. Number two is 20007, IB for Hardy, at 68%.
