It’s very strange how the city assumes that if it makes traffic terrible, people will switch to bikes. Talk about leaps in logic. People will just avoid going to areas where it’s hard to drive. People will go to restaurants in the suburbs for example because it’s so much easier. I know I rarely go downtown anymore because it’s too difficult to get to and too difficult to get around. How does that help anyone?
Are you honestly asking why it's hard to drive your personal car downtown to a restaurant, in a major world capital city? It's a city, ma'am. Take public transportation.
Uh, we’ll, it wasn’t like this a few years ago. Also, let’s extend your silly logic to bikes: you got hit by a car riding your bike in a major world capital city? It’s a city, ma’am. Common sense tells you it’s not safe. Take the bus.
When, the 70s? I’m sorry, it’s just not a reasonable expectation to drive your car to a major city downtown with no traffic and find easy street parking.
Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Have you been downtown lately? There are places where emergency vehicles won’t be able to go because of the bike lanes. Maybe the city is going to require firefighters and paramedics to travel by bike.
that’s just a complete lie.
NP here and it’s definitely true. 20th street between K and M is a great example. It’s basically down to one lane with no way for cars to pull over if an emergency vehicle wanted to pass through. G street is another example. Parts of L street as well.
total. do you know how many 1 lane streets there are? they are everywhere.
Not really, not in downtown. And even if they had parking on both sides, they still had scope for a car to pass on the side. Now the lanes are such that they are impossible for another car to pass by. The streets I mentioned now have actual barriers that create a bike lane and make it impossible to pull over or pass. And those are some concrete examples and absolutely not the only ones. The streets I mention are near GW hospital. I sincerely hope whoever planned this factored in emergency vehicle routes. I certainly haven’t seen any, though.
Also, does anyone else remember DC during 9-11? The streets were flooded. In the event of an emergency, how will we be able to evacuate? What happens if the metro shuts down? A terror attack?
Do you ever get tired of making stupid arguments. No pedestrian safety because 9-11!
