I'm from the Midwest and I have never met people like them.  Most guys in the Midwest would take major sh!t for speaking like Cole does. He would be the subject of much razzing and even more "p-whipped" jokes in many circles.     [/quote]

The upper Midwestern is still a very traditional area - men who work hard to provide and are supposed to be the strong, silent unemotional types. The wives are traditionally the nurturing ones. So yeah for Cole to be a highway engineer squealing in delight at his boy's weiner or running around gleefully taking care of a baby doll -- decidedly not a South Dakota thing. Frankly he'd get a fair amount of razzing from men in that area about even talking about changing a baby's diaper -- sure they do it in the 2000s bc the wives expect some household contribution, but all of that is still the woman's job.[/quote]
