Agree.  I'm interested to see the explanation of that K standard posted above.  I'm beginning to understand why people hate this so much.

Here is the K standard posted above:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.K.8
With prompting and support, identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text.

It's part of a set of standards related to informational text. The general skill is integrating knowledge and ideas. The complete set of standards for this skill is:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.K.7
With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts).

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.K.8
With prompting and support, identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.K.9
With prompting and support, identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures).

So let's suppose the informational text is a picture book about plants. One of the points in the book is that plants need certain things to grow. As I understand it, to achieve this standard, the kindergartener would be able, with prompting and support, to say that the book says that plants need water to grow, and they need air to grow, and they need sunlight to grow.[/quote]
