This whole thing is so bizarre.
It really is. I know people complain about some missing people getting special treatment, and certainly that's true, but this is a weird one. Who takes an older woman in the middle of the night? Especially someone with a high profile relative? I cannot imagine it could possibly be Annie or her husband. How stupid would you have to be???
This. I don't think it is a family member unless there is severe mental illness that causes completely irrational thought. I do think they made an agreement with the BIL that he may be a decoy so the real kidnappers don't think the authorities are onto them. They have no reason to be jealous of Savannah unless this is a highly dysfunctional family with a mother who manipulates and it doesn't sound like that at all. I am sure they see all the sacrifices and exhaustion that comes with Savannah's high profile life and they can appreciate their quite and normally (before this) peaceful life. I have some close friends who are super successful-even one in the lime light though not quite a household name and I truly am proud of them, love hearing about their success, but at the same time don't envy them. My family is dysfunctional and my mother plays games, compares, tries to create competition, etc. I just don't engage, though it would stress me out when young. You would have to be severely mentally ill to have the level of jealousy some posters suggests no matter how dysfunctional a family (and it doesn't sound like this family was dysfunctional). I keep getting back to this being a crime ring with foreign ties because it's easier to pull these things off in other countries. Alternatively, maybe a mentally ill contractor. I go out of my way to keep good contractors and write positive reviews and thank them profusely, because I once had a really deranged guy show up who started screaming at me for asking questions about his high quotes, etc. I remained calm and it was hard to de-escalate. Something was really wrong there and it made me scared for the next few months knowing he had my address. His thinking and reasoning skills were completely off and i think that would have to be the case with crime like this. I also suspect the criminals must have some personality disorder features and enjoy the national attention and temporary power. Thanks for coming to my layperson Ted talk.
