Did the philosophy behind the 2021-22 9th grade admissions changes also carry over to 10th and 11th grade admissions?
No, those admissions don't make headlines so those admissions are still merit based.
In 2021-22, there were a number of 10th and 11th graders that failed an SOL. In 2022-23, there were a number of 11th graders that failed an SOL. That's a new phenomenon. That's why I wondered if admissions policies changed in the upper grades beginning in 2021-22 as well.
It has more to do with impact of the pandemic on education than these wacky conspiracy theories pushed by the C4TJ crowd.
There were no English or science SOL failures at TJ in 2020-21; there were no pandemic effects then.
Not sure about that, but the impact of COVID-19 on math education in the United States during the 2021-2022 school year was particularly severe and continues to have lasting effects. During this period, many schools oscillated between remote, hybrid, and in-person learning, creating an inconsistent and often disrupted educational environment. Math scores experienced notable declines. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the 2021-2022 school year saw math proficiency rates fall significantly. In fourth grade, the percentage of students scoring below the basic level rose to 38%, up from 31% pre-pandemic. Eighth graders showed a similar trend, with 36% scoring below basic, compared to 29% before the pandemic.
