Update from Wootton PTSA newsletter:
The next opportunity for public testimony is Thursday, January 8 at noon. I know this is a challenging time for many to attend during the work day, but it is important that we fill the hearing room as much as possible. If you are available, please join us at the Board of Education, 15 West Gude Drive, Rockville. Many Wootton families have registered to testify, and we will soon know how many speaking slots were assigned. During testimony, we will continue to oppose Option H, which would permanently move Wootton to Crown High School. We will also present a theoretical alternative—Option W—which keeps the Wootton cluster together, keeps our school on Wootton Parkway, and urges the Superintendent and Board of Education to add Wootton to the CIP for renovation in the earliest possible timeframe. I personally do not believe the Superintendent or BOE should make an irreversible decision to close Wootton, relocate our students to Crown, and convert our building into a holding school. Under Option H, MCPS and the BOE have not committed to preserving the Wootton name or keeping our cluster intact. After years of deferred maintenance, closing Wootton because the building has deteriorated is not an acceptable solution. Before winter break, I worked with Dr. Bostic to coordinate a meeting with Mr. Adnan Mamoon (MCPS Chief Operating Officer), BOE Member Laura Stewart, MCCPTA President Brigid Howe, SGA leaders, and PTSA leaders. MCPS has agreed to work with us on short‑term repairs while we continue advocating for a long‑term solution. I am also coordinating a community meeting with Mr. Mamoon later this month.
