This season is just confessionals, no events. It’s so boring.
I think COVID gave them privacy for the first time in a decade. I think Christine leaving caused real and intense friction and drama between the families and I think the rift with the boys is huge. Additionally the older kids have slowly been coming of age and choosing to go private and showing the rest of the family that that is available to them. As a result I think EVERYONE has gotten really boundary happy with filming. And that isn't a terrible thing or anything necessarily, but I think its clear that their lives aren't being filmed anymore, but rather they are telling a story of what is happening through confessionals/staged meetings/conversations. I think the reason it is still interesting and compelling is that many of us have watched this family for more than 10 years. And seeing it fall apart, a lot of us can read between the lines of what's been happening because we were SO intimately in their lives for so long. And a lot of leaking out of those confessionals if you've been around since the beginning. The tight control they appear to be trying to exercise while still cashing TLC checks is in opposition to the seismic shifts happening in their relationship and that really is coming across. So its less bombastic but if you want to just actually know whats going on I still find it really compelling. Watching the house crumble has not been SATISFYING but fascinating for sure and I'm very happy for the wives. I think going public is what led to this, but it also gave these women options they never would have had otherwise. It gave them a path to financial independence and freedom.
