I'm certainly not masking my kids outdoors, and they eat lunch at school and camp, so they are not masked then.  But we had COVID, despite being fully vaccinated and everyone in our household that is eligible being boosted, and it really sucked.  No, our lives were not gravely in danger, but we felt pretty horrible for about a week.  I'd prefer to avoid that again.  [/quote]

Even your kids?   My kids felt sick for 24-48 hours (and by far not the worst they've ever felt) and were then bouncing off the walls.

After seeing how little getting the virus impacted them, I think it's pretty selfish to limit my kids' activities and behavior and I'm not doing it anymore.  We will still diligently test at any sign of symptom and do everything we can to avoid spread if we get it.  I've accepted this might mean my DH and I will get it again and yes, feel bad.  We are lucky that we are healthy adults.  We'll manage.

You’ve been lucky.  It’s been over two weeks of misery for me and I cannot even get in to see my doctor for another week.  Those who say socialized medicine is great…no it’s not when you cannot get in to see any doctor when it’s a large hospital.  [/quote]

Omg you still haven’t been able to see a doctor? Im so sorry, I’ve been on vacation and off of here for over a week but I remember your story clearly.  Feel better soon and don’t hesitate to go to the ER if things get really bad!

Nope, still no doctor's apt.  Pulmologist called but was not helpful.  Primary care finally got me an appointment end of next week.   There are hundreds of doctors at the facility and cannot get one appointment.  Hope you feel better soon.  [/quote]

I’m sorry, but you need new doctors. No one should be waiting weeks to get in to see their PCP for a “sick” visit. Especially if you are vulnerable, which I’m guessing you are if you also have a pulmologist.  What do you do when other health problems come up?[/quote]

I am ignoring them.  It takes me months to get appointments.  Its been a year trying to get Pulmology testing and I was supposed to have it last week and it got delayed another two months.  I have a pulmology appointment in a month.  Mammogram, I've been waiting three months and that's with identified lumps on a scan and had to cancel with covid so now its another few months.  It is what it is.  Its either wait or go to the ER and risk catching something else or virtual appointments that sometimes the insurance covers and sometimes we private pay (did multiple at  the worst of it).  In theory, we can see any  primary care on the team but they always claim no appointments are available via the hotline, online and via messaging/phone calls to the clinic.

Anyone who screams that socialized medicine is great... no its not.  Its sad this is the best our government provides. [/quote]

Our govt runs multiple health insurances.   Medicare, Medicaid, tricare, va…….[/quote]

Half of Medicare beneficiaries are in Medicare Advantage, which is run by private companies. United Health is the biggest.

Many in Medicaid are in private plans as well - it's called Medicaid Managed Care.

The US does not have socialized medicine. It is the opposite. Private companies run health care in America.
