The interesting thing is, liberals have been fond, for decades, of using the Commerce Clause in the Constitution as their basis for expanding the power of the federal government. It will be pretty ironic if a Republican Congress uses the Commerce Clause as their basis for outlawing abortion for the entire country (assuming the court strikes down Roe). Before the push by early 20th Century progressives like FDR to expand the scope of the Commerce Clause, no legal scholar would have believed that Congress had the power to either ban abortion or legalize it for the country as a whole.
