No, a general is always a general. Generals don't retire in the same way other officers do. They retain their rank and can be called back at any time. [/quote]
Any retiree with 20 years in can be recalled at any time, not just generals. But DOD Directive 1352.1 - Management and Mobilization of Regular and Reserve Retired Military Members, makes recall ?to active duty unlikely for Kelly, who is 67. And regardless, it is acceptable for the press to question those in authority whether they are active generals, retired generals, chiefs of staff and/or gold star fathers. [/quote]
