We've gotten a bunch of backstory on Santos, more than most. She was a competitive gymnast. She was sexually assaulted as a child (it's implied that she might have been molested by a gymnastics coach). She had a close friend either commit suicide or attempt to commit suicide, and it's implied that the friend was a fellow gymnast who may also have been SAd by a coach. She speaks Tagalog, indicating at least one of her parents was an immigrant.

Meanwhile we really learned nothing about Mohan last year except that she is kind but spends too much time chatting with patients. At least this year we've got some backstory on her mom in NJ and their relationship, which has helped round her out some. Santos was definitely a more rounded out character coming into this season.[/quote]
