While that might be true if you all grow up together in the same household, there’s no reason for people who have never been a part of your daily life, or even regular extended family celebrations to “have space in your mind”. It’s less an issue of “denying their existence “ and more one of relegating them to the very limited roles that they’ve actually played in your life. That’s probably particularly true if there are age gaps, geographic separations, discordant relationships between the parents, etc. I’d put it out there that “blood” matters much less than experiencing actual meaningful, positive relationships.
