Also, this came up with the Rockville case. Why is a 20 year old man (who I realize is the victim here) attending HS with 15 year old girls? Doesn’t Montgomery County have separate programs for adults?
Children age 5 by September 1, 2018, and not age 21 on the first day of school are eligible for enrollment in MCPS. I don't have a problem with this. Why do you? -former 15-year-old girl and current parent of a 15-year-old girl
I do have a problem with it. What is the benefit of keeping 20 year old men in classes with 15 year old girls? Wouldn’t it make more sense to have them in a program where they can be instructed at their level?
There are laws and Supreme Court rulings that protect students with disabilities from discrimination in education. Provision of services in the least restrictive environment is one. If the home school can provide the level of service the student needs, then the student has a legal right to attend that school up to age 21. If you saw the interview with the family last night, you would have seen a person with the innocence of a child that was taken advantaged of in the most malicious way possible. All MCPS students should respect each other, including students who have disabilities. I ditto there is something horrendous about the culture of the JV Football team if this and the locker room incident is seen as an acceptable way to treat others.
