Would like others opinion on something- have a player with an August birthday. Club wants her to continue to play up. Not really giving her the choice to play with her correct grade. Shouldn’t it be the player’s choice? Feel like the club is prioritizing the club/team needs over what is best for our daughter.
First when you say playing up do you mean with your daughter's current BY team when we change to SY this fall. Or when you say playing up do you mean playing on the correct grade in school team this fall when SY starts. Its kind of confusing to think about and until SY kicks in this fall you need to be very clear with your definition because playing up means different things to different people. I'm just going to assume that you mean this fall. Because your kid is an August birthday currently in BY they are playing on a team mostly made up of players a grade older then they are. This fall when we switch to SY if you dont play up your kid will be the one player a grade older than everyone else on the team. In this situation most players would choose to play up on the team with players their grade in school. If your club isnt allowing Aug birthdays to play up on the team with players their grade in school talk to your coach and DOC. Explain the issue and say that this is very important to you. If the club ignores your request. Go to another club and explain your situation. Most likely they'll offer your kid a spot then and there. Clubs that wont let players play up on the team thats their grade in school are being dumb. They'll quickly change when players start leaving over it. But arrogance mixed with ignorance sometimes make things take longer to happen.
Daughter is a 8th grader currently playing with mostly 9th graders. Club wants her to continue to play on her current team (U16 next year) rather than repeating U15 and playing with her correct grade. It’s a small club. I know it’s better for the club for her to continue to play with her team but not sure it’s the best thing for her. We are going to check out other clubs.
