I’m a teacher who doesn’t get overtime. My pay would easily double if I got paid for the Saturdays and Sundays I work.

But that doesn’t mean I’m going to disparage officers for their overtime. They do a job I would never want to do.

I’ve never had to do a wellness check just to find somebody’s beloved grandmother rotting in a house.

I’ve never had to respond to a domestic, having to usher a beaten woman to safety.

I’ve never had to try to stop a stab wound from taking a young life, hoping paramedics can jump in soon.

I haven’t had to comfort a distraught mother whose child has gone missing for days.

I haven’t had to direct traffic in a dangerous storm, risking myself in a flash flood.

All of these are things police officers I personally know have done. I know posters here like to scream that officers simply eat donuts and violate people’s rights, but I don’t fall for that narrative. I guess knowing people makes it hard to hate them. [/quote]
