[twitter]https://twitter.com/wsj/status/1506839501338992644?s=21[/twitter]
Is this credible?
Russia has a huge army of conscripts that they don’t care about and a small trained real army. Their military is a paper tiger.
This is the Russia small “trained” army. About 10k killed and 3 times that number wounded. I would say it is more like 15k plus 45k wound/prisoners. This means many of their combat units are no longer effective. A battalion of 10k troops and 300 tank is now 2k troops and 20 tanks.
Russian figures exclude deaths/ injuries from: - Vagner Group: these are “private contractors” made up almost exclusively of Russian ex- military, including many combat vets and special operations troops. They answer directly to Puty. About 4,600 have been killed by the Ukrainians. - Chechens and Belorussians: we know Belorussian troops are guarding Chernobyl, and probably not dying in large numbers; the Chechens have suffered heavy losses; the entire first was was likely wiped out. Doubt Puty is counting these deaths. - unknown: deserters and MIA. Russians deny there are any deserters at all, there are many photos of Russian field equipment and field positions simply abandoned. The Ukrainians are not keeping a precise tally of Russian dead; there are likely many unknown KIA.
- and Donbass / Russian separatist militias: they are also under Russian army command, and reportedly used as “shock troops” (cannon fodder) by Russian commanders. They reportedly took extremely heavy losses. The Russians do not count these deaths /wounded. An estimated of 17,000 to 20,000 KIA is quite plausible, with easily another 20,000 wounded / out of action. That is 20% of the total invasion force, lost or out of action. Yet the Kremlin claims the invasion is “going to plan” ??
