Everyone I know grew up or worked with someone like Mamdani. Complete phony - that smile makes me ill. It was the kid who tried too hard to be clever, sucked up to the teachers, and was just overall really annoying. No one truly liked them, even the sweetest, nicest girls in the class. He was insufferable. I just can't get past that. The only reason I would even consider him is that we all also grew up with a Cuomo and that kid wasn't too loveable either - sketchy guy who no one could really trust and was kind of a jerk.
He fakes his accents depending on who he’s talking to. It’s phony.
I truly am rooting for him to succeed because I am rooting for NYC to succeed. But when he has to deal with Trump or the head of the police union or any of the many other NYC power brokers he has never engaged with, they are going to eat him for lunch and wipe the phony smile off his face very quickly. He will not know what hit him. And we will all suffer for it. And again, this comment has nothing to do with his race, religion, or anything of the sort. People compare him to Obama. Obama was a million times smarter than him, much more life experience (law professor then state assembly for longer than Mamdani before running for Senate), and just much more gravitas and dignity.
So you are saying the police union cares more about exacting revenge than taking care of NYC? Got it. All these power brokers who you say are going to harm Mamdani at the expense of the city? Well they will show us just how much they don’t care about the city, only themselves.
I am saying that the unions (such as the police union) are going to have their way with him if he has to negotiate a contract. Because he is an amateur. No one in or around government respects him at all. It is not complicated.
You do realize the mayor doesn’t negotiate these contracts directly, right? There’s an entire agency with a lead commissioner who is the primary labor negotiator. The current head is highly skilled and will likely stay on. She’s a woman too. Will you ask her if she’s on her period?
