The fire department ultimately had an increased budget. The 17m cut was part of a process. We are in a misinformation fire

I don't think this is fully clear yet, because a memo went out by the fire chief on December 4th about budget issues. The article above (and the Politico one which is the single source for the increase info) states that the increase occurred in November.
