CC and BP put the kids through the ringer, not FCV unless someone needs to come clean. Who leaves mid season?
If they were going to leave then it’s better they did so now, when the FCV GA players still have the opportunity to go somewhere else for next season. And those players will be just fine, it’s the ones they’ll displace who aren’t so lucky.
So displace everyone? Other clubs won't take more than 3-4 for each team. And we're really only talking ECNL clubs anyway. So 2-3 other clubs. The FCV coaches are who screwed the players. It's because they didn't believe they could control the process anymore. They never controlled the process and their success was largely due to their ability to get the DA league. Now that's gone, with no ability to develop players and no ability to steal players, they have nothing. All they really were doing was using the league DA and stealing players to form competitive teams. They were ruthless in that ability.
I still believe it was more that they saw there wasn't a real future for FCV in Loudoun county. For profit soccer model, definitely made money but TSJ decides to invest in a failing gym in Reston over putting money into their soccer program. This is where non profit model works better for these organizations vs for profit. There's no guarantee what an owner will do or what an organization will do with its money when it's for profit. They're not forced to reinvest it. There are pitfalls to non profits as well but at the least when a youth soccer organization is structured in such a way, you can generally bet on that they will likely have to reinvest those profits back into the club. Now those profits may be slim in places like Alexandria where allegedly there was leadership making nearly 300k a year, but that's all public information, not sure if it's factual but the choice on which clubs to support are on the individuals.
Most of the rest of the world relies on for profit entities to develop players. Personally, I think the non-profit structure is the biggest impediment to soccer success in the US.
