I binged the whole Netflix series last night (I am so tired today!) and I learned a lot of new things even though I thought I was pretty up to date on the story. The interviews with the other boat passengers were especially chilling. Although I was very disappointed that they all had multiple chances to get off or not get on the boat - they made poor choices repeatedly. I want to show my teen just to be like “this is exactly when you would NOT go and call a parent!!”
My husband and I were at odds here. He said that Mallory's boyfriend (I forget his name) should've slugged "Timmy" and told him to eff off. Then they all call a cab and let him drive himself drunk. However, I said they are kids, dumb, don't make good decisions. Part of being young is making mistakes. However this is just extreme and deadly lessons. You know they all went along with Paul's shenanigans because they were rich, parents gave them alcohol, etc. If he wasn't rich, NONE of those kids (including the girlfriend) would've given him the time of day. He was such a gross dork.
Yes, it is clearly obvious from the last video from the night of the deadly crash that Paul was drunker than an actual skunk. No way should any of those kids agreed to ride in a boat w/him that clearly inebriated. They should have let Paul drive the boat back to his house and they should have called one of their parents or taken an Uber home. Possibly prior to boarding the boat however, maybe Paul had conceded that he would let one of the other boys man the boat back home then he could have went back on his word once he got everyone on board. Only the group on that boat know what really happened. Who are we to judge?? That tragic, fateful night has affected each + every one of those kids for the rest of their lives. Sadly Mallory paid her life in full for it. This should send a clear message to any parent out there who has teenagers. Drinking irresponsibly is not just a rite of passage when young….. It can also impair rational thinking which can save a life.
