Is the general thought now that this guy shot Kirk because he (Kirk) "wasn't right-wing enough"? That's probably an oversimplification, but is that the general idea? i.e., that shooter was a far-right type who found Kirk to be insufficiently right-wing?
It’s called sectarian violence. If you follow the right there is a lot of it. It has to do with political power, money and ideology. Trump has shown his weakness and his followers are fighting to fill the void. Kirk was a big unconditional Trump supporter even if it meant abandoning his previously stated beliefs. Nick Fuentes has broken with Trump on Epstein and other things. Keeping to his core beliefs. These two completed for the same type of right wingers. If you are a true follower of one you can not follow the other. The other one is a false prophet. False prophets are a known thing in Utah. Laura Loomer and Marjorie Taylor Greene are headed for the same. They are all fighting because Trump is weak, does not care about the base, Epstein, supports Israel and Trump is term limited. After the mid terms it is everyone for themselves. If the economy continues to tank the fighting will erupt before the midterms. The right is going to break. There are just too many different ideologies being pasted together. The Midwest generally wants tariffs and big government. The western states want libertarian less government and no masked gunmen. The current south eastern and Texas economies are based on free trade. Look at Georgia. Hyundai plant raid will likely delay or stop the plants from opening. Meanwhile 4 paper plants have shut down in Georgia because of tariffs. Farmers, leisure industry and construction want cheap illegal workers. The racists want all immigrants removed. The antisemitists want to ship Jews to Israel and stop supporting it. The right wing Jews wants all military and economic aid to stop except to Israel. Everything is in conflict.
I live in the Midwest, and we definitely do not want tariffs. Where do you get your information?
DP. Midwest manufacturers may not have called for tariffs, but they certainly want government protections. They're the ones who file antidumping suits against foreign producers. The only person I know who has called for tariffs is Sen Tuberville who wants 100% on cabinets. Normally they would file an antidumping suit.
PP is likely referring to farmers. Midwest can mean both farm belt and rust belt.
