Anyone seen what one defender of the cop in question--who also happens to be a schoolteacher in TX--wrote on her FB page? “I’m going to just go ahead and say it … the blacks are the ones causing the problems and this ‘racial tension.’ I guess that’s what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education. I’m sure their parents are just as guilty for not knowing what their kids were doing; or knew it and didn’t care. I’m almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone,” Fitzgibbons wrote in the since-deleted post. http://www.salon.com/2015/06/11/im_almost_to_the_point_of_wanting_them_all_segregated_texas_teacher_pens_breathtakingly_racist_mckinney_post/
Disgusting and outrageous. I hope she is fired. As suspected, the cowardly racist deleted her post. I'd respect her more if she left it up and owned it.
She has been fired. I am not sure that these repeated social media mobs that get people fired are a good thing. I am a pretty firm believer in the right to be an asshole from time to time. She deserves all the criticism in the world and maybe some assigned research on racial segregation, but firing for a Facebook post seems a bit much.
Maybe if she worked at Macy's but this person was a teacher. She dies not have the right to poison the minds of children.
But what about free speech? I'm black and think what she said was despicable (not to mention--WITW was she thinking posting this in a public forum??) but it seems strange that you can get fired for a social media post. A bit of a slippery slope, IMO, but I'm no legal eagle. Any 1st amendment experts care to weigh in?
Please get an understanding of Freedom of Speech before you keep making yourself sound like an idiot. It means that she will not get arrested or charged with a crime for her views and statements. It doesn't mean that she won't suffer consequences from her employer. Try calling your boss a "flaming asshole" and see what happens. You will probably get fired but you are entirely safe from the law. THAT's Freedom of Speech.
