Can Biden step down and hand Kamala the 47th presidency and she run as the incumbent?
If Biden isn't well enough to run, he's not well enough to lead. If Dems were genuinely as excited about Harris as posters here say, they would do this. That would lock in the nomination for Harris. Absent that, anything can happen in an open convention.
The convention is purely ceremonial. You get that. Right? Because the convention is being help after the Ohio deadline and maybe 1-2 others to submit the nominee. And no one trusts Ohio Rs when they say they will make an exception and put the Dem nominee on the ballot despite that, especially now. So, the actual delegate voting will start no earlier than 8/1 and will be completed no later than 8/7, via a virtual convention. And as of last evening, Harris had well over the number of delegates she needs. She’ll get the nomination in a virtual vote next week. That plan was announced under Biden when it became clear Ohio might try to keep him off the ballot. And it was announced yesterday that was still the plan. As it should be. I don’t trust Ohio or a red state to put Harris on the ballot. By the time we reach the convention, she’s been formally nominated for a couple of weeks and already had her name submitted to the states. The convention is just free prime time and speeches and tag rah go team. Why is the convention so late? Good question. The incumbent party goes last, and they are programming against the Olympics.
They chose television programming over ballot deadlines, and you want me to vote for them with that kind of judgment?
It had been that way every olympic year...you can actually google it, nothing new.
That wasn’t the question. The question was, why should that sort of judgment induce me to vote for their candidate?
Because they have the good judgment to know Ohio won’t put them on the ballot, like they did in 2016, and as the did for Rs in the same position in 2020. And if they do, Trump will sue. So they are doing the voting in time to be 100% sure their candidate qualifies. And I’m sure there will be a way for you to watch, should you care. And then hold the ceremonial piece when they can get three or four nights of free prime time TV. After the 2020 election denialism and lawsuits, bad judgement is not doing the technical part in time to avoid lawsuits. Or, throwing away the DNC PR bump. Here they get both. Would not, this was an issue for Rs in 2020 and Ds in 2016. And so on. And for whatever reason, Ohio can’t get its act together and just vote to move the deadline, because (except 2021), the Olympics are always an issue. It’s just that pre J6, it was assumed the incumbent party won eta waiver because of course Ohio should e ale to vote for either of the major party candidates. Things changed post 202 election. Bigly and Badly. Thanks Don the Con!
“Their candidate” What a strange argument you make. They could have had an all-in, open and transparent convention. Instead, you have a presumptive POTUS nominee in time for the ballots in Ohio and…oh wait, no Veep nominee yet. Lawsuits aren’t the end of the world. Losing them is. Let the Trump team sue, who cares? I guess you ALSO didn’t read that I am not MAGA. Or better yet, maybe the Dems could have done the right thing instead of rushed last minute sloppy stuff under the banner of “I know we lost your daughters’ right to healthcare, but just trust us.”
