I think the Santa neighbor guy did it. JB had said he would pay her a "special visit". I think he was waiting in the house. Wrote the note while they were at the party. Woke up JB and gave her the pineapple. Hit her with the flashlight. Took her down the basement. Was going to take her in the suitcase out the window. She wouldn't fit. He assaulted her and used the paintbrush. He couldn't do the act himself (old man, recent surgery, this was pre-viagra) but he wanted to penetrate her. (yuck). She still had a pulse so he finished her off with the garrotte.
And spent hours in an unfamiliar house with the family sleeping upstairs, including washing and re-dressing the child's body?
I had understood that he had been in the home before. I heard somewhere that JB had taken him on a tour of he house. One of the videos made by the expert murder investigator pointed out that there was a strange rope found in the bathroom of JB's bedroom. No one could explain where it came from. Doesn't that seem like something an intruder might have with him? also there was a picture of a bed with a dust ruffle all tucked in - except for one spot, where the dust ruffle was puffed outwards. The investigator stated it could have been from someone who hid under the bed, getting out. Article on Bill McReynolds from CNN http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2006/08/did-santa-claus-kill-jonbenet.html
I'm embarrassed that I know this, but there is a whole theory on the rope -- that it came from JonBenet's American Girl doll (as did the duct tape). There is a similar rope used to secure the AG doll head on, and there's extra rope, and the manufacturer suggests that it be secured onto the doll (and many people used duct tape). The day after the body was discovered, Ramsey family friends came to their home and removed the doll in question. Also there was a replacement doll ordered to John Ramsey's work and delivered after the murder (some question about whether or not it was ordered before Christmas or after, however). The thinking being that if the Ramseys were asked to produce that doll, they could have a replacement doll at the ready.
