Gavin is who we need today but he’s not Presidential material. Hopefully a better candidate (like Breshear) will learn a few tricks from Newsom in how to attack the other side.
The Dems in 2028 will have the same luxury they had in 2020 with the ability to win back The White House with just about any nominee they choose thanks to Trump being the sitting POTUS. The key is nominating someone who is likely to be viable as an incumbent running for a second term in 2032. A two term Dem POTUS serving through January of 2037 should be enough time for the GOP to cleanse itself of the Trump stench. A level-headed multi-term governor like Beshear would be a better bet for someone who won't have the swing voters in swing states seeking change again in 2032. This being said; a competitive primary field is the true litmus test that will allow the presidential cream to rise to the top. Beshear and Newsom could be the next over-hyped DeSantis falling on their faces when on the national stage or they could have the legitimate presidential leadership skills we've been lacking since Obama left office. We won't know until they're on the big stage competing in a competitive field of candidates.
