Just in case people aren’t aware of the regional dynamics at play: Hezbollah is part of what is known as the Axis of Resistance. The other members are: - Iran - Hamas - Houthis in Yemen - Syria - Popular Mobilization Forces (paramilitary group in Iraq) They have murkier relations with Russia and Afghanistan. Their stated goal is to destroy Israel.
You act as though the US is this angelic entity in the world. The goal of the US in the middle east to extraction and exploitation of power. Iran has a defensive nuclear posture and has indicated time and time again that they would be willing to agree to a nuclear proliferation treaty and have agreed with Egypt's call to create a denuclearized region in the middle east. The US does not want this because Israel is either our lapdog for control in the region or vice versa (depends on who you ask and who you believe gets more out of this relationship). Not that the US shouldn't legally supply aid to Israel given that Israel (most likely**) has nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, and other weapons of mass destruction. However, since Israel is a client state of the US and helps US corporate interests in the region, there is no reason for us to enforce this. Thus, we accept their purposeful ambiguity in regards to their nuclear capabilities as it serves our interests. Alternatively, you can believe that we are their puppets. Either way, it really is one in the same argument as "we" the small time (aka anyone making less than $2M / year) is a slave to the same system. Keep chugging along. Keep paying your taxes. Keep watching as somehow you work harder and harder, yet you never reap the fruit of your labor. :!:
My post didn’t mention the US at all. Why are you so triggered by basic facts about regional alliances?
Axis of Resistance has this deeply negative connotation to it. It is a US based term for sure and the negative connotation serves certain interests in that space. I wouldn't say triggered. Just reading Chomsky at the moment and thought I'd say what I recently learned with the class. It's quite eye opening.
