Are the races this nutty everywhere??? Is it common for a political party to endorse school board candidates? We are just starting to pay attention to the APS stuff bc our kids will be going soon. I’m kinda scared!
Arlington is a Type A town, so a lot of people have a lot of opinions about how their children should be educated. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless bad actors become involved. Youngkin being elected and actively trying to dismantle public schooling and disenfranchise Black, Brown, LGBT+ and disabled students make parents who care about these kids too demand answers from prospective school board members. There's nothing wrong with that either. Yes, the ACDC runs this town (including the "nonpartisan" School Board races), and there is something very wrong with that. Qualified candidates, many who are federal employees can't run because of the Hatch Act. And divisiveness and mean-spiritedness from certain quarters keeps the rest of the best candidates away. So we two underwhelming candidates. We have to parse through which one is better than the other. Miranda's supporters aren't sending out their best folks. And Antonio? I guess he's just waiting to make his move. Nobody knows anything about him except he's 22 and a new Arlingtonian resident. But those are our choices. You should be scared.
