How good (or bad) is RM w/o the magnet program? Can someone post some specific data other than "it's good/bad" comments? I saw one PP's (estimated) analysis showing average SAT score of slightly below MCPS average (1590 or so??). Can someone provide SPECIFIC data showing it's better/worse than that?? TIA.
I don't have specific data but all the kids I know who did non- IB at RM still ended up at good colleges. You can get a wonderful education there without IB!
No data beyond anectdote here, either, but I have one who graduated from RM 2 years ago and one who is a senior. Neither had any intetest in IB, but RM also has a robust offering of AP classes. Child #1 got into her top choice colleges (#2 is finishing up apps as I type :) ). From what I've observed, the IB and AP kids seem to be quite similar - smart, active, and ambitious.
2015 list of colleges for top HS in MCPS applied/accepted. There are 125 IB kids in RM (25 are RM in bound). There is way more than 125 students represented in this list from RM. So yes, plenty of non IB students go to good universities after HS. Number of WJ and RM students who applied/accepted to Montgomery College is not that different (not that there's anything wrong with going the CC route. It makes more sense financially). I think it reflects the SES of the student body in both clusters. I think a lot of the top tier schools like Harvard are not that interested in having lots of students from W schools. Big fish/small pond theory seems to apply if you look at the number of acceptances for Harvard. BTW, to the PP who stated Wootton was the best in Rockville, no Wotton student was admitted to HYP. http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Magazine/September-October-2015/College-Admissions-Chart/index.php?cparticle=1&siarticle=0#artanc
I don't see how you can make that statement. You really don't how many IB kids are counted multiple times since it shows "accepted" not "attending."
