Central America is a violent hellhole. But, sure, let's make fun of terrorized kids whose dream is to be able to skateboard without serious fear of getting shot or kidnapped or any number of other horrible things.
I know, right? I feel like it's the moral responsibility of journalists to cover this stuff. Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, and all that.
But this is part and parcel of the modern conservative mindset - they shouldn't even have to think about all those icky problems facing migrants, African-Americans, the poor, underinsured, disabled vets, and refugees from a Middle East debacle we created. That's why they get pissed off about Black Lives Matter and just want "those people to shut up." Being wealthy and conservative means never having to have those problems on your doorstep or interacting with those people. It's a truly f#cked up mindset. That's why they blather on about "libtard guilt," SWJs, etc etc etc - they can't handle even thinking about all the f#cked up realities that face those less fortunate than themselves. And hence why they call NPR covering stories that pop their bubble of the ideal America as "leftist" and "liberal." It's a total inability to want to even hear about people leading different lives and facing real struggles (no, your company's taxes and regulatory compliance are not a real "struggle"....)
