I had a house with a 2 story foyer and a 2 story kitchen, and the noise level upstairs was incredible. OP, if you do this, put the bedrooms a looong way from the foyer. Also, there is always a dead bug on the sill of the second floor window (that you can see from the second floor landing) and somebody's got to go up on a ladder to dust it off.
