Now the complain is that not enough TJ grads attend SLACs? What happened to the complain that too many kids NOT interested in STEM are attending TJ just for the name?
No. I made the comment about SLACs in response to the pp who said the TJ grads were going to all kinds of different schools. Not really. Hardly any of them went for the SLAc. No offense was meant.
Very few people head to SLACs. Most kids aren't interested in paying $$$ to attend a school with an extremely limited #of degrees and with a smaller student body than most high schools.
Really? Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Bowdoin, Middlebury -- all really unpopular? Not with grads of many privates, and dare I say, "top tier" privates?
I think it is more of a finance issue. Many of these schools do not give out merit aid which many TJ students would need to attend these schools as many students probably don't qualify for FA. Also SLACs don't hold a lot of sway in the VA publics. The higher SES ones send grads to these schools, but not the numbers you would get NE public schools. As for private schools, most people who go to SLACs from those schools have $$$$.
