I wrote a short vent on Facebook the other day about there not being enough hours in the day to deal with DH and the kids' laundry. SIL replied, "Then maybe you should consider staying home so you can get all that done instead of working just so you can have nice vacations." I felt like I was slapped in the face. I get it - the mommy wars will never end, but to call out someone you barely know about it? Am I supposed to react to this? I feel like DH will be upset if I do.
The truth hurts.
It sure does. I personally decided to quit my job and SAH solely because I knew it was very, very important not to shirk my duties as Family Washerwoman. I take laundry very seriously, and OP, it's no wonder you have been upset by this comment. Why, you sound like the kind of person who occasionally lets a stain set in or dumps your lights/darks together or forgets to turn a garment inside out despite the label's instructions. Surely when you look back upon your life and mistakes you've made, not devoting enough time to be able to do laundry in a thorough and devoted manner is going to be one of your greatest regrets. Maybe this is the wake-up call you need to quit and re-examine your priorities and the kind of message you are sending your children about the importance of devoting plenty of time to cleaning one's garments. The next time you pick up a book, get down on the floor to play with a child, or walk in the woods, ask yourself, "Should I be doing laundry right now?"
LOL! OP, the only answer you ever should need to give to the question "why are you working" is "because i want to" or "i like it" or something to that effect. It is 2016 and yet people still think because you have the boobs you owe them some kind of explanation why you're working outside the home. You don't. Like one long ago PP, i too would just reply "wow." what a jerk.
