Does OP really even live in Fairfax, or is it more like Centreville? DH and I looked at houses in Fairfax (near George Mason) when we were buying, and all of the commuting options to downtown to DC were roughly an hour. Also, we bought in the burbs when we were in our twenties - we still go out in DC or stay late to go to happy hour. Outside of rush hour, our house is 20 minutes from the National Mall. Besides downtown, we go out in Old Town Alexandria, Shirlington, Arlington, etc. Living in the suburbs is not some depressing death sentence that OP makes it out to be. [/quote]
