I find the situation with Mrs. Drew to be heartbreaking. After all, they were raising Marigold as their own daughter for some time, until Edith took her away to Downton. It would be like someone taking away one of your own children, yet Robert and Cora don't seem particularly sympathetic. Cora, especially, seems extremely passive about the whole situation and not nearly as empathetic and compassionate toward the Drews as she she should be. I was sobbing when they showed Mrs. Drew rocking Marigold. How awful for her. Even Mr. Drew has the most compassionate way about him. Edith - she should be forever grateful for everything the Drews did for her. How can they possibly tell them to uproot their lives and move? They owe them so much. Mary has no clue that Edith is Marigold's mother. When Edith finally tells her, I think Mary will have a whole new impression of Edith - and lots more respect for her. As for Anna, would a simple stitch really hold her cervix secure enough to bear the weight of a baby? That description confused me. If she's been miscarrying at such an early stage, how would she possibly be able to carry a baby to full-term? Maybe the procedure + bedrest? I was glad to see Mary helping Anna through this situation.
The treatment of the Drews was horrible. It proves that no good deed goes unpunished. Mr. Drew was Edith's confidante about Marigold and took the child into his home. Mrs. Drew obviously became attached other and it was horrific when Edith took her back. Mrs. Drew made a valid point that no one was watching Marigold so that she could easily snatch her and take her back to the farm. It had to have been at least 5 minutes for her to take the child and drive away. On the other hand, it might be better if Mrs. Drew is away from the Abbey village as it might help her cope with the loss of Marigold. The last two episodes have certainly highlighted the disdain of the upper classes for the lower classes: first William's father is tossed out of his tenancy and then the Drews. No wonder socialism took hold in England after WWII.
I agree with that Edith was horribly selfish in terms of Marigold. In terms of the tenants, unfortunately, that was not disdain but the wealthy with the huge mansions just went plain bankrupt. They didn't toss out the tenants out of disdain, but they ran out of money. Much of Highclere Castle AKA the Downton Abbey exterior was in horrible disrepair. The show helped the family that owned the building from going into complete ruin: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/sep/19/downton-abbey-highclere-castle-tourist-cash-funds-repairs
