Golf and country clubs are for d-bags.
Everyone in this thread needs to check their rich white privilege.
"Privilege"? "Check their rich white privilege"? Who says things like that? It's not a privilege when your family has been building it for generations, Moonbeam. And i plan to pass on even more to my children and grandchildren. That's what families do.
I hope this was sarcastic? If not, I shudder at the obliviousness
You aren't cool. You aren't funny. You aren't ironic. But you ARE jealous.
I am wealthy with an inheritance and money to pass onto my children and grandchildren. I am fully aware of my privilege, given that I did nothing but to happen to be born into a particular family in order to have this wealth. I am also completely aware of what my wealth, and my skin color--which I did nothing to inherit--mean for me, and the sheer fortune of having been born into particular place and time mean for me. I did not "build" any of this wealth, given that I've only been working for a decade and in a position that doesn't pay particularly well, but that I can pursue because I have family money that allows me to pursue this profession. It is utterly distasteful for someone who is born into tremendous wealth to not acknowledge her privilege. It also means that you have likely been poorly educated. Unfortunate that your wealth did not buy you intelligence.
I do not acknowledge my "privilege", whatever that means. However, I do acknowledge my family, which has toiled here for generations. And I acknowledge the families of many others, who established, fought and died for, and maintained this wonderful country. That is not "privilege". That is the result of hard work and sacrifice, to get your children and their children to a better place. If you feel guilty about what you have, then donate it all to charity and move abroad. But it is an insult to your ancestors to say that you were "born into a particular family". Good grief. Your ancestors must be rolling over in their graves.
What did you do, pray tell, that constitutes "toiling"? And by "you," I mean you as an individual, and not your ancestors, who may have worked hard and sacrificed. I do not feel guilty for what I have. But, I also realize acknowledging privilege and appreciating it are not mutually exclusive. You, on the other hand, seem not to be able to understand this.
