Maybe your sister is ill and the treatment drugs have a side effect of weight gain - and maybe your brother is sad because he's about to be a widow.
+1! This is a very real side effect of many drugs for serious illnesses, so tread lightly, OP! If you are NOT in fact a troll (or not a troll IRL), why don't you simply have a normal, kind, nonjudgmental discussion with no weight opinions whatsoever, particularly since many, many people overeat at Xmas and wouldn't appreciate overhearing your judgments? Just a random thought...
+2 I gained a lot of weight temporarily due to medication for a chronic health condition. My partner was very unhappy about the diagnosis and what he saw as crappy medical care. He didn't care about the weight. Well, actually, I think he liked the 36DDs. Anyway, the point is. If you saw a snapshot moment of our lives at that time, you might have misassociated his unhappiness and my weight gain. No one should have to share every diagnosis, treatment regimen, or state of their marriage. BTW, I got the correct medication eventually and dropped the weight. Still sick though.
